The chief guest of the programme Mr.Srikumar Pandurang, Director, R.B.I. Bangalore, spoke
about the significance of Independence Day celebration and his speech concentrated mainly
on economic freedom of India since independence. He further elaborated as to how the
freedom struggle has led to our personal financial freedom. Freedom according to him not
only means liberty to life, but also freedom of expression, freedom of sustainability. But the
best part of his speech was when he said freedom of speech also means freedom to remain
silent. He said that India is ranked 31 st among 43 countries in the Asia- Pacific region in
economic index, and its overall score is below the regional and world averages. India is
developing to an open ended economy, but traces of its past autarkic policies remain. He
further observed that corruption, underdeveloped infrastructure and poor financial and budget
management continue to undermine the development of our nation.
The programme concluded with the presidential address of the Principal and vote of thanks.
The presidential address reminded us all of the importance of the freedom which we enjoy
and the sufferings of the great freedom fighters.
