On the eve of International Women’s Day on 8th March 2014 a special lecture was organized in our college. Hon’ble Mrs. Justice B.S. Indrakala, Judge, High Court of Karnataka, Bangalore, spoke on various laws relating to Rights of the Women. Dr. J.M Mallikarjunaiah, Principal, was the president to this program. Around 78 students attended .the special lecture. Hon’ble Mrs. Justice B.S. Indrakala began her speech by saying that the women around the globe come together on this day to commemorate their decades of struggle for justice, equality and peace. The speaker while talking about the gender discrimination prevalent in our society states that the pay difference between men and women is about 16.4% and only 12.15% of women representation in the Indian Parliament.
The speaker urged the students to realize their worth and to do everything they can to make maximum use of their potential. She called upon the students to appreciate every woman in their lives who have crossed various hurdles to become who they are today and to be the voice of the women who aren’t as privileged as we are and inspire them to stand up for themselves.
