Addressing the gathering Sri.S.B.Gunji Gaavi said that the modern societies increasingly demand gender equality, which is also a precondition for genuine democracy. Yet women are still under-represented in most parliaments in the world. To overcome issues of discrimination and violence, women’s organizations have focused on the empowerment of Indian women. Socio-economic conditions, such as poverty and illiteracy, prevent the entrance of women into running for public office, and even voting. Understanding the need to empower our female students and inspiring them to be politically active citizens of the nation by making them aware of their rights guaranteed by the Constitution, the programme was conducted and it saw active participation from students.
